I 3D-Scanned My Yard (Gaussian Splatting) to Design a Fire Pit Pergola

I’d never built a pergola—and imperial measurements freaked me out.
So I 3D-scanned my yard with Gaussian Splatting and test-fit a hex fire pit pergola in 3D first.

Last year I built a hexagon-style fire pit pergola for my wife, but I had zero building experience and felt uncomfortable translating measurements since I’m used to metric in 3D work. To avoid guessing, I designed the whole thing in 3D and captured video of the yard area. Using Gaussian Splatting, I recreated the space as a 3D environment of “splats” and dropped my model into it to preview the scale and placement.
